How is PE Film made?

The process of making polyethylene

Ethylene, one of the elements used for manufacturing, is also one. It is a natural gas which reaches liquid at -104°C.

Ethylene is subject to the polymerization procedure. It is transformed into polymers which are tiny particles similar to grains. Hence comes polyethylene.

Production of polyethylene film

Now that you know how polyethylene films are made, let us explain how they are made.

Extrusion is the process that makes polyethylene film.

This is the beginning of the plastic film manufacturing process. The resin is melted until it becomes fused and malleable.

To make a continuous tube of plastic called a "bubble", the molten material is "pushed" (or better, "extruded") through a circular matrix.

The bubble is filled with air until it reaches the desired diameter. After cooling, it is pulled vertically from a tower and flattened.

The speed at which it is pulled out of the mold determines the thickness. The amount of air that is inserted into each bubble determines how wide the film will be.

By adding colored pigment resin granules to the melt, you can alter the film's color.

Many things can be done during this process. Printing images, instructions or company logos on polyethylene film can be done by a printer.

For individual bags, the film can be separated and cut. Ventilation holes may also be added.

Additional processing restrictions apply to the production of polyethylene film.

If the film needs further technical modifications, the laminated films will be removed from extrusion lines to be modified in what's known as offline conversion.
