How is PE film made?

We use many types of products every day and don't know how they were made. One example is polyethylene or polyester films.

Most people don't care at all about this type of information. It only needs to be made and made available for us to use.

If you don't want to be part of the majority, but still want to learn how polyethylene films are made, continue reading!

Before we discuss how polyethylene film can be made, let's first explain what it does. It is used where it is needed.

Polyethylene is a type of plastic. Polyethylene is a thermoplastic. It can be fused into a liquid, and then reformed to return to its solid state.

It is chemically synthesized using ethylene, which is a compound usually made from natural gas or oil.

One of the most popular plastics is polyethylene.

The melting and deformation temperatures for polyethylene are between 110 and 115 degrees C.

In all its forms, polyethylene has unique properties such as high impact resistance, flexibility, and good thermal and chemical stability.

For packaging, polyethylene is used such as plastic bags and plastic films, geomembranes and bottles.

The manufacturing of polyethylene

Let's now talk about the manufacturing of polyethylene.

Ethylene is one element used in manufacturing. It is a liquid gas that can reach its liquid form at -104 אבל זה לא עמיד בפני אלקליות חזקות.

The polymerization process is used to transform ethylene. This is when it transforms into small particles of polymers that are similar to grains. Hence comes polyethylene.

Polyethylene film manufacturing

We now know how polyethylene is manufactured. Let's learn how polyethylene film made.

Extrusion is the process of creating polyethylene film.

The plastic film manufacturing process starts with melting small plastic granules, called resin. They then fuse and become malleable.

To form a continuous, plastic tube, called a bubble, the molten plastic is "pushed" or, better yet, "extruded" through circular matrix.

After inflating the bubble to the desired size, it is pulled vertically up from a tower. Once cool, the bubble can be flattened to its final width.

The speed at which the film is removed from the mold controls its thickness. The bubble's volume determines the film's width.

You can change the color of the film by adding colored pigment to resin granules during the melting process.

This process can do many things. The printer could print images, instructions, notices, or company logos onto the polyethylene film.

You can cut the film and separate it for individual bags. Ventilation holes are also possible.

There are some limitations to the manufacturing of polyethylene films.

If further technical modifications are required, the laminated film is removed from the extrusion line and modified offline.
